Short Story
Alex Gagnon
Grade 8
As the boy lay under the sky looking up, thoughts passed into and out of his mind.
It seems like everywhere you look in this world all you see is lies, deception, hypocrisy, and fighting, everyone points it out but nobody does something to change it or themselves for the better. These people lay unaware of the world around them and how bad it has become as the very earth below them crumbles.
He continues.
It seems that every time someone tries to stand out or be different, someone retaliates and starts a fight. The truth is that different is good, change is good. As this comes up there comes the question, why? Everyone has a different perspective on why difference is good, or why change is good, but overall it all comes back to you, you as a person.
The wind blows as leaves begin to fall around the boy and he continues thinking.
Everyone says something they are 'going to do' for this world, but in reality they do nothing for it, they turn around and do something worse. The world is falling apart at its seams, and it's all because no one does something to stop it, they just let it crumble.
The boy pauses, and then resumes his train of thought.
All of these thoughts run through everyone's mind at some point in life. As they enter your thoughts you tend to stop and think, think hard about these problems, and think of what you can do to stop them, but then you let the thoughts drift off. Once in a while there will be a person who takes these thoughts to heart and truly tries to stop them. These people are true hearted and really care about where their lives and this world are going.
We also experience more questions, like why we fight, is it for a reason or is it purely out of greed, fear, and power? It seems like modern day is exactily this. Fear in the eyes of the enemy is all that they care about, all they want to see. No one fights for freedom, but to protect it, from the people who want to take it from us, from the people who are not happy with what they already have and want to take it from the people they believe are inferior to them.
If we don't do anything to stop this, this is how our world will come to an end, in fear and anguish, as we sit and watch, knowing there is nothing we can do to save it. The boy stops to look around, just then he realizes that all of his thoughts seemed to pop out of his head; he pictured war, death, and destrustion. He then became that true hearted person he thought of and that the world needed; he became a hero.
