The Will to Live
By Nicholas Simpson Grade 8
From the beginning life has been hard
My life in a concentration camp
Forced to be here with no choice
Sleeping on uncomfortable beds
Shelves
Forced to work all day
One piece of bread
One piece
Minuscule droplets of water
The life giving
Rejuvenating
Essential for the life of all
Water
I look to my friend across the way
Weeping
Mourning
Heartbroken
Over the death of his father
I think to my family
My mother and sister forced to the female side
My father shipped off to another camp
In the box cars
Or should I say the death trap
Yet I know we all hope time will come
When we will go home again
Now I know how dear it is
The will to live.
