An Excerpt From "A Beautiful Recollection"

Written by Fatiha Choudhury

Grade 8

Chaos. A mixture of a deep, cranberry red and a murky grey. Calamity and gloom are not among the emotions that I have dreamed to capture.

They are nightmares.

I have read many times of the struggle of humankind. I have read that equality has always been a dream, forever out of reach. I have not read about its ultimate existence. I have not read of the Android Rule - I have lived it. So from the gaps of my sanctuary, I watch as they rip apart the only thing that has ever been mine.

"What is Lost is not meant to be found," my mother used to say. I think of it as pathetic, really, that they cannot even come to fathom the beauty of emotion. They possess their own customs and beliefs, their own advanced technology; their artificial intelligence. They will try to replicate emotion; Love rather than love; Despair rather than despair.

They will destroy my world in order to recreate their own. They will stop at nothing.
