Six word memoirs from Ifteda Ahmed-Syed (Grade 8)

Need to stop procrastinating. Start tomorrow.

Well, that looks steep. Let's jump.

Excerpt from "Guardians of the Forest"

By Robert Peterson in grade 8

"So, how much longer until we reach the cabin, Bruce?" We had been on the road for quite a while and I was a bit worried.

"Uhhhhhhhh, I don't know, we should be there in about 15 more minutes or so," he said with not as much certainity as I hoped.

"Bruce, you said that 15 minutes ago. Where are we?"

Bruce sighed. "Steven, we're almost there. It's just a little bit harder trying to drive out to the cabin at night," he replied.

"So then shouldn't you have brought a GPS or even a map? Or was that too complicated for you?"

I never saw Bruce as much of the "fighting type," but sure enough he punched me. Not in a playful "cousin" type way, but more like an "I'm trying to hurt you" type of way.

"Listen Steven," Bruce said. "It's not my fault that you have a messed up life. I'm just trying to help you out."

"Help me out? Are you kidding me? Bruce, let's get this clear. There is nothing you were supposed to do to 'help me out.' The only thing that was required of you was transportation, and you can't even do that right because WE ARE LOST!"

"We are not-"

"BRUCE, LOOK OUT!"

Bruce tried to brake but we were going much too fast and the road was way too slippery. Instead of performing a sharp turn, which was necessary to stay on the road, we broke right through the thin rail seperating us from the dark void that was down the hill. Expecting death, I said a quick prayer as like a last and final effort to try to get into heaven but soon everything just went black.....

Advertising, "Known, Know, To Know," a short story by Ifteda Ahmed-Syed (Grade 8)

"Something about these questions does not feel right. No, not at all. It is unsettling. These questions feel blank. And, so do their answers. As if I do not deserve them."

Do you know why? Or how or what or who or when? We don't, although we have been - although we are. We don't know. Do you?
