Equus Literary Magazine

I see the vibrant red Life Saver. As red as cherries, like a tiny red donut. I feel the smooth plastic with the slippery Life Saver inside. I hear the crinkle of the plastic as I open it up. The delicious cherry smell hits me like a blast of wind. I take the Life Saver out of the packet. It's sticky to the touch and hard. I pop the delicacy into my mouth. I hear crunching and slurping as I enjoy the rich sugary delight. A clang as the hard candy hits my teeth. So tangy and savory I don't want to be done. I have finished my Life Saver. Another one please.

Up and Down

By Zharia Meadows

Grade 8

I was swinging up and down; up and down.

I was laying down on my stomach and spinning. This is the best swing ever!

I feel happy as can be. I am happy as a bird flying, because I feel the wind.

I was getting dizzy. My eyes feel funny; like a swirl.

I stopped the swing, and stood up and I walked funny. I do the dizzy walk.

I was moving scattered, like a baby learning to walk.

I like this because it makes me laugh.
